Garcinia mangostana (mangosteen) known as the queen of fruits in South East Asia. They are seasonal fruits like the rambutans, durians and mangoes. Mangosteen is about the size of a tangerine, it has a brownish-purple skin that can stain your clothes if you're not careful when opening them. The inside of the mangosteen consists of wedged segments, usually varies from 6 to 7. Each segments containing oval seeds, although sometimes they can be seedless (for the small wedge). The exquisite soft juicy white flesh has an aromatic, sweet yet slightly acidic flavor. This fruit should be eaten as soon as it has been opened. I've been eating a lot of 'manggis' when I took this shot as the fruit easily get stained. In Jakarta a kilogram (2 lbs) of mangosteens costs only about a dollar (USD) and that is about 7 or 8 pieces of mangosteen.
